The Red House – Hayley Megan French
A series of imagined and constructed spaces that operate between moments, places, memories of time spent in Warmun in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia.
Autumn Exhibition Suite 2016
In The Red House Sydney painter Hayley Megan French has produced a series of imagined and constructed spaces that operate between moments, places, memories of time spent in Warmun in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia.
With the support of the Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarship for Painting, French lived and worked within the Warmun artist community for 3 months in 2015. The body of work which emerged out of this experience was for the artist, transformative, revealing a profound engagement with the conceptual and aesthetic frameworks of Aboriginal Australia.
The Red House forms part of French’s larger research project: painting as a way of understanding the influence of Aboriginal art on individual practice, and more widely, on artists in Australia.
