Penrith Youth Art Prize 2025
Echoing Nature
The Penrith Youth Art Prize is an annual exhibition that recognises, encourages and celebrates the creative talent of young artists in our local community. Open to artists aged five to eighteen who have a connection to Penrith and its surrounds, the prize is an opportunity for young artists to showcase their work in a gallery setting. This year’s theme, Echoing Nature, invites young artists to explore the dynamism and wonder of the natural world. From the rich colours of a sunset over the Yandhai Nepean Crossing, to the towering form of a red gum tree or the grace of a snake’s movement, nature has inspired our young community to capture new perspectives on the relationship between humans, our local environment, and the world beyond.
The 2025 exhibition features a vibrant mix of acrylic and watercolour paintings, drawings, prints, photography, collage, and mixed media. It also includes a unique artwork from Penrith Regional Gallery’s Collection — Currawongs by Modernist sculptor Margel Hinder — an elegant stylisation of birds embracing that connects the youth artworks with the gallery’s broader collection.
Artists are showcased across two judged categories: Primary (5–12 years) and Secondary (12–18 years). Twelve finalists from each group have had their artworks framed and exhibited. One winner and two highly commended artists have been selected per category, with additional works featured in display portfolios.
Exhibition Opening and Award Ceremony with special guest Lynda Henderson: Saturday 31 May, 11.30am
Prizes have been generously supported by the Friends of the Gallery and Eckersley’s.
