ABOUT

Artist Talks: Join The Pool Show artists David Capra and Katerina Asistin in conversation with Joanna Gilmour, Curator and Acting Director at Lewers: Penrith Regional Gallery, for an insightful discussion on the ideas and themes behind each artist’s work. From the thrilling performance- and community-based approach of Capra’s Birthing Things in the Spirit to his pairing with Annette Kellerman objects, in contrast with Katerina’s compellingly quiet paintings of Mount Druitt Pool.

Afternoon Tea Storytelling is a reflective dicussion between artist Jagath Dheerasekara  and  academic Paula Sanchez,  share their personal and collective stories of survival, exile, and resistance. Both have endured torture—Paula in Chile, Jagath in Sri Lanka—and speak as living archives against the erasure of memory. This conversation invites the community to engage with histories that continue to shape our present, over a relaxed afternoon tea and a musical feature by Paula.

Call for Entries: Pool Cake Competition: We’re inviting bakers, artists and cake-makers of all ages to enter our Pool Cake Competition inspired by The Pool Show exhibition as part of Summer Open Day at Lewers: Penrith Regional Gallery on 14 February 2026. Create a pool-themed cakeand showcase your edible artwork at the Gallery for a chance to win a family pass to Ripples Aquatic Centre St Marys & Penrith.

En plein air workshop is a drop-in style activity led by exhibiting artist Katerina Asistin, giving audiences of all ages the opportunity to respond directly to the unique natural environment surrounding Lewers through drawing. Katerina Asistin is a Western Sydney based Filipino-Australian, who recently graduated from the National Art School with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
