Organised Chaos is the culmination of works created through the Penrith Open Studio program. The artworks, along with the exhibition design, framing, and installation, were all completed by young artists from Western Sydney with support from Gallery staff and artist mentors. We titled the exhibition Organised Chaos to capture both the differences and connections between our artworks. At first glance, the show may seem wild and varied, but look closer and you’ll find subtle threads that link the artworks together.
Penrith Open Studio is a program for young creatives who want to develop their practice through mentorship from professional artists, collaboration with peers, and the creation of new work. The fifteen participants, selected through a competitive application process, came together from local secondary schools to develop and present this exhibition.
Now in its second year, the program aims to strengthen connections between young people, their peers, and their local art gallery. Highlights included artist-led workshops and behind-the-scenes visits to Penrith Regional Gallery and the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
