
During this adult short course, join local artist Nell Brey to learn the basics of Contemporary Needle Lace. Over 4 weeks, you will learn all the steps necessary to create your own gorgeous lace Superb Fairywren. The mindful process of needle lace will unfold each Sunday, from setting up, building on the basic stitch of needle lace, and then finishing your unique artwork. All materials will be provided, and all skill levels are welcome.
Weekly Overview
Week 1 (31/08): Introduction, lace pad, and laying foundation threads
Week 2 (07/09): Filling stitches – buttonhole, corded buttonhole, and double
Week 3 (14/09): Advanced stitches – pea, insertion, and cordonnet edging
Week 4 (21/09): Cordonnet edge, release lace, and blocking
Artist Biography
Elyn Brey (Nell) is a textile artist specialising in contemporary needle lace, particularly portraiture. Her work has been exhibited in Australia and overseas.
Nell uses traditional needle lace techniques in contemporary ways, often exploring autobiographical themes through narrative lacemaking.
She enjoys the challenge of finding textile solutions to convey meaning.
