This floortalk will consider the works by Philip Juster on display in Hibiscus: Angela Tiatia and Philip Juster, exploring Juster’s use of collage to create incisive, wry and irreverent observations on history, colonialism, museology, environmentalism and the othering of non-Western cultures.

ABOUT SPRING OPEN DAY

Celebrate the closing weekend of the current suite of exhibitions with a day of free activities showcasing Oceanic culture, including a spectacular Pan-Pacific cultural dance and fire performance by Matavai Cultural Arts. 

Enjoy hands-on art-making for all ages, including a joyful lolly lei workshop celebrating the gifting tradition of Ula Lole, and a giant sculpture activity inspired by Shireen Taweel’s The Edge of the C. 

 Join PRG Curator Joanna Gilmour for an engaging talk exploring Australian artist Philip Juster’s vivid and inventive collages, which examine the connections between Pacific cultures and Western art.
