Inspired by the classic swimming pool cake from the Australian Women’s Weekly Children’s Birthday Cake Book, Penrith Regional Gallery invites bakers, artists, and cake-makers of all ages to create a cake in celebration of The Pool Show. The Pool Cake Competition is presented as part of Summer Open Day at Lewers: Penrith Regional Gallery.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION
Create a pool-themed cake and present your edible artwork at the Gallery for a chance to win a family pass to Ripples Aquatic Centre St Marys and Penrith, along with a bag of Gallery goodies. The competition is open to all ages and skill levels.

PRIZES AND CATEGORIES
Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

  • Under 18 years

  • Over 18 years

  • People’s Choice Award

Winners will be announced at the close of the event at 2pm.

JUDGING
Entries will be judged by Joanna Gilmour (Curator and Acting Director, PRG), David Capra (Artist), and a representative from the Café at Lewers.

DROP-OFF AND COLLECTION
Cakes must be delivered to the Gallery reception desk on Saturday, 14 February 2026, between 9am-10am and collected between 2pm – 4pm.

ABOUT

Summer Open Day is a celebration of the artists from our current exhibitions, with a day of free activities on the closing weekend of The Pool Show The Pool Show, river is a witness and MEGAPIXEL.  Enjoy hands-on, artist-led activities for all ages, including water play inspired by Mike Hewson’s Bush Shower; a Pool Cake Competition and a chance to win passes to Ripples Leisure Centre; a pop-up market stall with the MEGAPIXEL artists; and a plein air–style  drawing workshop with Katerina Asistin. Live music by Jerrah Patston and Sam Worrad including ‘The Glenbrook Pool Song’. Join The Pool Show artists David Capra and Katerina Asistin in conversation with Joanna Gilmour, followed by a special afternoon tea storytelling session with Jagath Dheerasekara and Paula Sanchez.
