Penrith Open Studio

This is a unique opportunity for young artists (in years 8-11) to meet creative peers and gain mentorship by professional artists to explore new techniques and develop new bodies of work.

Highlights of the program include:

  • Connecting with creative peers from western Sydney
  • Artist-led creative workshops
  • Behind the scenes visits at Penrith Regional Gallery
  • A group exhibition at Penrith Regional Gallery

Key Dates

  • Applications open 2 February- 20 March
  • Information session/ group interview: Monday 30 March 4 – 5:30pm
  • Successful applicants notified by 13 April
  • Program Dates: Mondays 3:30 – 5:30pm (students may arrive late if it takes them longer to travel)
  • Term 2: Monday 4 may – 29 June 2025 (9 weeks)
  • Term 3: Monday 27 July – 21 September 2025 (9 weeks)
  • Exhibition Dates: Saturday 19 September – Sunday 1 November

Location

Sessions are held at Nepean Creative and Performing Arts High School, 115-119 Great Western Hwy, Emu Plains

There will be four sessions held at Lewers: Penrith Regional Gallery, 86 River Road, Emu Plains

Applications

How do I know if this program is right for me?

  • Applications are open to all students in years 8 -11 with an interest and passion for visual arts.
  • Participants must commit to the program schedule and be able to attend at least 16 weeks of the program.
  • Successful applicants will be actively making art in and/or outside of school. They will be interested to meet artists and gallery staff and learn about the visual arts industry.
  • Two places in the program have been reserved for students identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

How To Apply

Complete the online application form including:

  1. Artwork submission – share documentation of 2 recent works of art created by you that represent your artistic practice.
  2. Artist statement – tell us about what kind of art you make and why you make it.
  3. Interest – tell us why you want to participate in this program and what you hope to gain from the experience.

A shortlist of applicants will be invited to an information session and group interview on Monday 30 March

Successful applicants will be notified by 13 April
