About Matavai Pacific Cultural Arts
Matavai Pacific Cultural Arts was founded in Sydney in 2013 and is a leading cultural arts teaching and showcasing group dedicated to the revival and preservation of Pacific arts. For their special performance at Spring Open Day, they will present a Pan-Pacific dance performance that explores Tongan, Hawaiian, Fijian, Cook Islands, and Samoan traditions, culminating in a spectacular fire performance by the current world champion fire dancer.
Lolly Lei Making Workshop is a joyful activity led by Matavai Cultural Arts, celebrating the beloved gifting tradition of Ula Lole, or lolly lei. This hands-on workshop will teach you how to braid and decorate contemporary garlands that are both beautiful and delicious. A modern spin on the traditional flower lei, lolly leis are gifted at celebrations and special occasions throughout the Pacific.
