Weekend Volunteers

An exciting volunteer opportunity is available at Penrith Regional Gallery, Home of The Lewers Bequest. This opportunity will particularly suit people interested in art, culture and modernism. This is a dynamic role with the opportunity to engage visitors and maximise a positive experience for audiences.

The commitment is for a 3 hour shift, approx. 2 per month – on weekends.

Volunteers will be given the opportunity to:

  • Be an ambassador for Penrith Regional Gallery (PRG) and the larger Penrith Performing & Visual Arts (PP&VA), the region’s flagship cultural organisation
  • Gain an insight into our ongoing exhibitions
  • Get a behind the scenes look at working in a gallery
  • Be part of the welcoming Gallery team, providing hospitality to gallery visitors
  • Invitation to the Opening events

As part of the program we are looking for volunteers to:

  • Be available at least one day a fortnight or a month – on the weekend
  • Have a Working With Children Check (available online free for volunteers HERE)
  • Sign and adhere to a Code of Conduct (Penrith Performing & Visual Arts)
  • Be available for a two hour induction and training session (date and time to be advised)

As part of the role volunteers will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Hosting the exhibition space and welcoming visitors into the exhibition, as well as interacting with the general public as ambassador for the gallery and the exhibition
  • Invigilation duties including – being vigilant and mindful of the space and artworks in order to protect the works and interacting with the public to create an exciting but safe environment for people who view the exhibition
  • Record accurate exhibition visitor statistics
  • Asking visitors survey information questions
  • Other tasks which may become available including library cataloguing, assisting with workshops, assisting in the Gallery Shop
