Farr & Little: DO NOT PANDA

Using photography, charcoal, octopus straps, polyester, sticks and stones, Cathy Farr and Mark Little, with compassion and humour, take a wry look at Ancient, Old and New Australia and place modern Penrith at its epicentre. Farr’s ‘Absurdist’ photography and Little’s ‘cultural vandalism’ combine to create their own ‘contemporary ready-mades’. Fluxus for the 22nd Century. An installation.UK based Australian artists Cath Farr and Mark Little have recently completed a four week residency in Penrith, working with twelve student artists at Nepean High School and developing work for Farr & Little: DO NOT PANDA.

Artist Statement

Farr has been directing theatre for twenty years; collaborating with Little on ten acclaimed shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and subsequent British tours. She is passionate about imagery and is currently enjoying the disposable medium of digital photography – producing photographs of great wit and compassion.

Farr first exhibited in 2008, winning the Brighton Festival Best Open House (UK) and more recently in York (UK) as part of a major international exhibition, Crunchtime 2010.

Mark Little has been a poet, master humourist and creator of self-devised theatre for thirty years. His work, which often takes an Absurdist view – flipping preconceptions and prejudices, has been acclaimed at festivals and theatres throughout the world.

Little’s sculptural installations, usually created as backdrops for his onstage spoken word anarchy, are here seen in a gallery context for the first time; his performance poetry, now satirical graffiti.

Under the influence of Dada, Fluxus and the Situationists and within the Modernist design of Ancher House, Little’s ‘cultural vandalism’ and Farr’s ‘digital whimsies’ combine.
