Drawing with Nature
Adult Workshop with Clare Delaney
Set in the beautiful Lewers Gallery gardens, join artist Clare Delaney to explore drawing in response to nature. Immersed in the shapes, colour, light, smells, sounds and textures of the garden, we will make our own drawing tools from materials collected from the garden, and play, and experiment with naturally made inks, as well as charcoal and graphite, to capture the essence of this amazing garden. Building on our experiments with natural materials we will work on bringing different marks, shapes and textures together in one finished work. There will be an opportunity to explore how to make avocado ink in the Gallery studio. Participants will also take home their drawing tools, experimental process drawings, and avocado ink.
Clare Delaney lives and works in the Blue Mountains on Dharug and Gundungurra country. She is an artist, art facilitator, gardener, and compost maker. Having a deep concern for the planet’s health and future survival has inspired Clare to look at other ways to create art; submerging paper/canvas in her garden compost, recycling, reusing, making natural inks and using found materials in her work. Clare has been facilitating art workshops since 2005 and during that time has worked with a wide range of people of varying artistic abilities Clare has exhibited widely including the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre and Braemar Gallery. She was a 2016 Macquarie Bank Emerging Artist Prize finalist, 2021 Wollongong Watercolour Prize finalist and a 2022 Dobell Drawing Prize finalist.
