Autumn Suite Exhibition Opening
Public Program
Join us in celebrating the official opening of our Autumn Suite of exhibitions, featuring:
The Halfway Line, Blak Douglas
The Halfway Line surveys the expansive and incisive career of Dunghutti artist, Blak Douglas. Spanning painting, photography, drawing and sculpture, The Halfway Line charts the emergence of Douglas’ career, beginning in the industrial estates of Penrith, through to winning the 2022 Archibald Prize. Featuring works from major public and private collections, The Halfway Line is the largest presentation of Douglas’ work, presented in the heart of Western Sydney.
Maggie and The OWLS: Light and Space Maggie Hensel-Brown and the Outer Western Lacemakers (OWLS)
Held in our Lewers House Gallery, Light in Space honours the timeless traditions and evolving techniques of lacemaking: a practice often overlooked as domestic or ‘decorative’ – and for having long been the preserve of women. Through a conversation between contemporary artist Maggie Hensel-Brown and members of local lacemaking group the OWLS – who mark their 40th anniversary this year – Light in Space bridges the traditional and the contemporary to celebrate lacemaking as a vibrant, dynamic, and enduring artform.
Untitled (42), Emma Griffiths
Penrith Regional Gallery is proud to continue its support of emerging artists from Western Sydney, with the first exhibition of local artist Emma Griffiths, Untitled (42). Working through photography, Emma uses her practice as a means to communicating how she sees and experiences the world. This exhibition showcases selection of her photographic works which situate familiar locales, such as the Nepean River and our surrounding suburbs, in a new light— allowing audiences to consider ideas of place and identity.
Living with the River, NSW Reconstruction Authority
In an effort to raise flood risk awareness and promote emergency preparedness, the NSW Reconstruction Authority held the Living with the River photo competition, inviting local residents to capture what the river means to them. Featuring a selection of those photographs, this exhibition surveils the power, beauty, and challenges associated with the Hawkesbury-Nepean River – known also as Dyarubbin – through the immediate lens of our community.
Doors open at 6pm, before an opening address at 6:30pm.
The Halfway Line will be officially opened by Kon Gouriotis, OAM. Susan Templeman MP, Federal Member for Macquarie, Special Envoy for the Arts to provide opening remarks for the Autumn Suite.
Light refreshments will be served.
If you would like to attend the official opening, please RSVP by sending an email to gallery@penrith.city, by Wednesday, 19 March.
